A First-Time Voter's Guide to Grenada

If you've never registered or voted before, the process can feel unfamiliar even though it's genuinely simple. This guide answers the questions first-time voters actually ask, in the order they usually come up.

Am I eligible?

You're eligible if you're a Grenadian citizen, or a Commonwealth citizen resident in Grenada, and you're 18 or older. Most people who meet those two conditions are eligible — disqualifications under the Representation of the People Act are narrow and apply to specific circumstances, not the general population.

What do I need to bring?

A valid form of ID — a birth certificate or passport — and proof of your current address, like a utility bill or tenancy agreement. If you're unsure what counts, your Constituency Office's Registration Officer can tell you exactly what's accepted.

Where do I actually go?

The Constituency Office for the constituency where you live — not just any office. Grenada has 15 constituencies, each with its own office, hours, and Registration Officer. Use the Register to Vote page to find yours.

Does it cost anything?

First-time registration is free, and so is voting. The only fee is EC$20, and only if you ever need to replace a lost or damaged Voter ID card.

How long until I get my ID card?

About two weeks after you register. Once it's ready, confirm your name actually appears on the electoral roll using the Voter Lookup tool — it's a quick way to catch any processing errors well before election day.

Don't wait for election season. Registration is open year-round, but it's suspended once a writ of election is issued. If you're eligible and not yet registered, do it now rather than waiting for an election to be called.

What happens on election day?

You'll vote at your assigned polling station — the specific building (often a school, church, or community centre) tied to your polling division, not just your constituency in general. Use the Division Finder to confirm exactly where that is ahead of time, so there are no surprises on the day.
